I am Olusola Palacios, I live in Tampa, FL. I earned my
bachelor’s degree from South University, in Health Science; however, I have
been in and out of Information Technology or rather, its process, either by
trying things out, by taking classes here and there or being involved in
breaking and fixing something, I guess it’s just curiosity and passion. With that said, I find myself working with
the IT teams or being the IT person in my team. Hence, I figured it was best
for me to pursue a career in IT/IS.
Although I work in the legal field, I have been fortunate to
work with a non-profit, providing them with full database administrative
support and I help analyze data and secure their database. Also, in my current
role in a law firm, I have been able to assist with customizing the database,
providing basic firm cybersecurity, risk analysis and automating work products,
and in turn, minimizing the firm’s overall costs, errors as well as increase
productivity.
I find data science and business intelligence fascinating,
and currently excited about taking this class! I previously took Data Mining
for Business Intelligence class, I found it incredible and since then, I have
worked on so many publicly available structured data. This class, however, will
help continue to learn about business intelligence, and I am very curious as to
how to collect unstructured data as it appears to be growing daily.
Hello Olusola! I also find data science and BI fascinating! My background is in HR but like many departments we definitely interact with IS in our day to day. Currently I report into the IT department but I sit with HR. It's my first time having this reporting structure but I like it because it allows me to feed my interests and learn from my IT colleagues. Great to "meet" you and I look forward to hearing about your experiences!
